*Beverage On [the] Ground
Like the classic Beverage antenna, a type of traveling-wave receiving antenna commonly used for low-noise reception on low to medium frequencies, the BOG is a broadband, low noise, directional wire “receiving” antenna for receiving long-haul DX signals on the 1.8 to 7 MHz bands. Unlike the classic Beverage antenna which is very long and must typically be elevated above 2.5 to 3m above ground, the wire (in this case the COAX cable) of the BOG can actually lie on the ground, although better performance is achieved if it is elevated 2 to 10 cm above ground. In addition, The BOG’s close proximity to ground causes a rapid decay of the current along the wire, enabling the use of shorter lengths of wire than the classic Beverage. On average ground, the optimum lengths are typically 60 to 90 meters.
